Conquering the Elements is Empyrean Plague's first full-length release. Ambient passages and blackened doom riffs fill this album from start to finish.

The track 'Sheathed In Hate' was added in the 2005 repressing as a bonus track. This version is much more raw and haunting than the rerecorded version that appears on 2009's Ancestral Embers Shall Burn.

Majestic, intricate, and atmospheric melodic black metal. The melodies throughout this album are infectious. The vocals are quite varied (there is a wide array of harsh timbres, but there are also pleasing cleans); the guitar work is complex, layered and rich with innovative riffs; the bass sits in a good spot in the mix; the programmed drums are well done; and the keyboards add a mystical grandeur throughout this album.
